It is estimated that over 80 million
Americans suffer from some form of venous or vein disorder. Varicose
veins are enlarged distended veins that have widened due to weakness
in the vein wall or due to a problem with the valves that control
the flow of blood back to the heart. Spider veins are small red,
blue or purple veins on the surface of the skin. Heredity is the
main contributing factor causing varicose veins and spider veins.
Other factors are hormonal changes in women, pregnancy, prolonged
standing, and aging.
Vein disorder symptoms, often worse after prolonged standing, include
pain, heaviness, fatigue, aching, throbbing, cramping, and even
swelling of the legs.
