Radiofrequency (RF) Ablation
The VNUS Closure procedure uses radiofrequency energy
to occlude, or close, the saphenous vein (a large
superficial vein in the inner part of the thigh).
This procedure is a minimally invasive treatment
option to traditional vein stripping surgery. It
is used for patients with a condition known as superficial
venous reflux, which often results in varicose veins
and other painful symptoms.
The Closure procedure is done as an outpatient hospital
procedure under local anesthesia. The procedure takes
about an hour with a total of about 2-3 hours spent
at the hospital. A thin catheter is inserted into the
vein through a small opening, using a single needle
stick. With the aid of ultrasound, the catheter is appropriately
placed and delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to the
vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse, and seal shut.
The Closure® Procedure
The VNUS Closure Procedure
is a minimally invasive treatment alternative to
vein stripping.

Following the procedure, the catheter is removed,
a compression bandage is placed over the insertion
site and the leg wrapped for two days. Compression
hose is worn for approximately two weeks after the
Closure procedure.
Recovery Time: Resume work or normal activities
the day after the procedure.
